Exploration Geologist

Description         An International Oil & Gas company in Lagos, Nigeria is looking for an Exploration Geologist.
Objective:
The geologist will be a member of the exploration team which will execute an in-depth geological and geophysical analysis of the company’s assets and new venture opportunities. The Geologist in this role will develop a detailed understanding of the regional geology. They will interpret seismic, well log, outcrop and other regional geological data. They work with the other team members to create depth and thickness maps to generate leads and prospects. They will generate in place volumes and reserves, working with reservoir
engineering colleagues to apply appropriate reservoir parameters. The geologist will carry out prospect risking and ensure the accurate estimation of exploration prospect reserves, and risks using GeoX software. Close collaboration with drilling colleagues will be required to ensure all relevant geological data is incorporated into drilling plans and the execution of drilling programmes.
Key Accountabilities:
• Produce regional geological maps. Prospect Generation and Evaluation, including interpretation of 2D/3D seismic data to produce maps, and maturation of these prospects to AFE status for drilling.
• Able to work at the prospect scale. Identify new plays, opportunities and exploration concepts, grounded by producing field analogs.
• Integrate play analysis and play prosecution into the evaluation and exploration of a project.
• Perform Basin modeling
• Be familiar with client standards for volumetrics generation and risking using GeoX for the preparation of auditable volumes
• Run volumetric on leads, prospects and existing discoveries
• Deliver detailed prospect analysis reports
• Produce reports outlining the processes, techniques used and conclusions derived from the work
• Work with drilling team to ensure correct inputs for well planning and execution purposes
• Ensure all wells are planned to deliver maximum value
• Ensure all geological uncertainties and risks are incorporated into forward exploration programs.
Skills      • Educated to a minimum BSc level in Geology
• Minimum 5 years experience of evaluation of interpretation of well log and other regional geological data
• Working knowledge of other subsurface disciplines including seismic techniques and reservoir engineering
• Experience of planning and monitoring of exploration drilling would be desirable
• Broad experience of working globally in different geological settings – clastics, carbonates, passive margins( including slope channel environments), thrust belts etc would be an advantage.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple ongoing projects, with advice from leadership.
• Ability to work with ambiguous or incomplete datasets, and with risk and uncertainty assessment.
• Must be a self starter with good decision-taking skills with ability to plan and organise workload effectively and a proven ability to work under pressure without sacrificing quality.
• Good team player with a proactive and flexible attitude, and able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Demonstrate good interaction with other subsurface disciplines, and to promote integrated working practices.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to challenge others in a constructive manner and negotiate with internal peers, partners and 3rd parties to influence decisions or ways of working.
• Good working knowledge of geological modelling, well correlation, prospect volume and risking methodologies and reservoir modelling.
• Experience of channelised slope reservoirs would be an advantage.
• A thorough working knowledge of geological software – in particular Petrel and Geology Office.
• Good IT skills using Microsoft Office products.
Remarks              The job holder would have responsibilities to make data gathering, development plan and budget recommendations, to the Exploration Manager rather than having direct budget control.
When necessary, to undertake internationals travel in support of the above duties.
