Exploration Geophysicist

Description        An International Oil & Gas company in Lagos, Nigeria is looking for an Exploration Geophysicist.
Objective:
The geophysicist will be a member of the exploration team which will execute an in-depth geological and geophysical analysis of the company’s assets and other new venture opportunities. The Geophysicist in this role will, interpret 2D and 3D seismic data and create time and depth maps for key stratigraphic intervals for input into volumetric calculations. The candidate will support in the development of an accurate estimation of exploration prospect reserves, and in prospect risking. The geophysicist will be responsible for ensuring that the most appropriate geophysical techniques are applied to the project including AVO. The candidate will also work to optimise exploration or appraisal programs as appropriate to incorporate all relevant geophysical uncertainties.
Key Accountabilities:
• Identify, mature and propose seismic data acquisition and (re-) processing proposals.
• Identify, mature and propose economically attractive exploration prospects for drilling through seismic interpretation and mapping of key stratigraphic levels, leading to products such as time maps, velocity maps and depth maps, and generate attribute analysis maps of seismic amplitudes and other key attributes (incl. AVO etc.) derived from seismic data
• Contribute to development of an optimized exploration programme.
• Apply state of the art interpretation and evaluation technology in the delivery of integrated, predictive subsurface models.
• Analysis of CSEM, gravity & magnetic data, where available.
• Produce reports outlining the processes, techniques used and conclusions derived from the work
• Write or contribute to evaluation reports, well proposals and well planning where appropriate.
• Ensure all geophysical uncertainties and risks are incorporated into forward exploration and appraisal programs and are incorporated into any estimates of reserves ranges generated by the group.
Skills      • Educated to a minimum BSc level in an earth science discipline
• Experience in generating well proposals and monitoring and driving exploration well delivery in a variety of geologic settings.
• Minimum 5 years experience of workstation based 2D and 3D seismic exploration and appraisal subsurface evaluation.
• Broad Knowledge of other subsurface disciplines and non-seismic techniques
• Experience of exploration drilling and/or seismic operations and processing would be desirable
• Broad experience of working globally in different geological settings – clastics, carbonates, passive margins,
• Experience of channelised slope reservoirs would be an advantage.
• Computer Literate
• Proficient in the use of seismic interpretation systems [Geoframe/IESX)] desirable
• Must be a self starter with good decision-taking skills with ability to plan and organise workload effectively and a proven ability to work under pressure without sacrificing quality.
• Good team player with a proactive and flexible attitude, and able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Demonstrate good interaction with other subsurface disciplines, and to promote integrated working practices.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to challenge others in a constructive manner and negotiate with internal peers, partners and 3rd parties to influence decisions or ways of working.
• Good working knowledge of geological modelling, well correlation, prospect volume and risking methodologies and reservoir modelling.
• Good IT skills using Microsoft Office products.
Remarks:             Reports to the Exploration Team Leader. A strong link with the Chief Geophysicist will be maintained, who will provide parenting, QC and mentoring if required.
The job holder would have responsibilities to make data gathering, development plan and budget recommendations, to the General Manager Exploration rather than having direct budget control.
When necessary, to undertake international travels in support of the above duties.
