Exploration Technical Assistant

Description        An International Oil & Gas company in Lagos, Nigeria is looking for an Exploration Technical Assistant.
Objective:
The technical assistant (TA) will be a member of the exploration team which will execute geological and geophysical analysis of the company’s assets and other new venture opportunities. The Technical assistant in this role will:
• Be able to manage all the available geological and petrophysical databases, their structure and the data manipulation software. He should be able to communicate with the geologists , geophysicists, petrophysicists , well engineers and ensure accurate loading of the well data.
• The technical assistant will manage and QC basic well data (location, deviation, tz) in cooperation with relevant departments and adhering to naming standards.
• The TA will ensure that corporate geological and petrophysical databases are updated following studies/drilling and that company archiving procedures are followed. He will assist the seismic interpreters as at when needed during evaluation, prospect generation including volumetric calculations.
Key Accountabilities:
• Maintain appropriate documentation and data storage to ensure adequate audit trail.
• Ensure corporate geological and petrophysical databases are updated following studies/drilling and that company archiving procedures are followed. Manage Geological and geophysical Data
• Upgrade, QC, display, analyze, store and manipulate stratigraphic data in data bases and visualise to satisfy technical complexity
• QC, store and manage data commensurable with technical complexity.
• Manage Seismic Data and Associated Data
• Execute or initiate seismic data loading. Effectively use available seismic databases and data manipulation software.
• Ensure data integrity.
• Provide appropriate documentation and consistent naming convention to ensure audit trail.
• Archive the closed-out project.
• Manage geological data and perform quality assurance/check, and conduct quicklook data analysis to support geological studies
• Participate in monitoring drilling operation.
Skills      • Educated to a minimum BSc level in an earth science discipline
• Minimum 2 years relevant work experience
• Fully competent in using all relevant computer programmes to input/retrieval/update of Geological Corporate databases. This includes identifying and solving problems as encountered.
• Data inventorisation/compilation, Manage Geological data - for project setup & support
• He/she must be capable of carrying out required tasks with minimum supervision on related computer applications; must be willing to learn and be supervised by geologist when assisting in geological studies
• Broad Knowledge of other subsurface disciplines
• Knowledge of seismic interpretation systems [Geoframe/IESX)] would be an advantage.
• Computer Literate
• Must be a self starter with ability to plan and organise workload effectively and a proven ability to work under pressure without sacrificing quality.
• Good team player with a proactive and flexible attitude, and able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Demonstrate good interaction with other subsurface disciplines, and to promote integrated working practices.
• Good communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to contribute in a constructive manner
• Good working knowledge of geological softwares, well correlation,
• Good IT skills using Microsoft Office products.
Remarks              Reports to the GM Exploration. A strong link with the Exploration Team Leaders will be maintained, who will provide parenting, QC and mentoring if required.
The job holder would have responsibilities to ensure appropriate data documentation and storage as well as support the exploration teams. He will ensure that software licences are up to date and make necessary recommendation on any data or additional software to the GM Exploration rather than having direct budget control.
When necessary, to undertake international travel in support of the above duties.
